The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Break Safety Week is scheduled this year from August 23 to August 29.
Throughout the week, inspectors will conduct routine commercial motor vehicle inspections, focusing specifically on brake systems and components, and will remove any vehicle that does not meet brake-related out-of-service standards from roadways until these violations are fixed.
Vehicle Focus Area – Brake System Maintenance
In addition to any brake out-of-service violations, a main focus will be on the brake drum and rotor for cracks, missing pieces, severe wear, and contamination from oil or grease.
Driver Focus Area – Daily Inspections
Drivers are encouraged to conduct thorough daily pre- and post-trip inspections, looking for air leaks and checking their brakes. This proactive measure will ensure vehicle safety and prevent costly delays during inspection week.
